The protection provided by the Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines against the SARS-CoV-2 virus may last for months, and may be even longer for those who had contracted COVID-19 infection and were later vaccinated, suggests a new study published in the journal Nature.
The study noted that either of the vaccines provided robust protection for at least 12 weeks after a second dose and low-level protection for at least one year. According to the study investigators, the results indicate that the vaccines provide robust and prolonged protection against the virus. Researchers on this and some other studies have indicated that immunity might last for years, or probably a lifetime, among individuals who had COVID-19 infection and were later vaccinated after recovering, reported the New York Times… (Medscape)
